Staying Packed

Over the course of the last two months my suitcase has had its fair share of bumps and bruises.  Over 8k miles just between December and February alone.  That’s what happens when you take a Texas gal out of the Lone Star state and plop her down on the iceberg coast of Maine 😉  (just kidding..I actually LOVE Maine)

You’d think this blog would be oozing with travel goodness.  It really should.  Sorry, I’ve been slacking.  Just too darn busy between the budding photog hobby/career,  Zumba addiction and French lessons, the blogging kinda took a small vacation.  The Chef’s been busy too–out to sea for weeks on end.  So to catch up, here’s a quick look at what we’ve been doing and a glimpse of where we’re about to jet off to!

It should be a no-brainer

Paris

Of course…Paris!

But only for a few days, then we’re hitting the road and rails with Marie Z. Johnston,  French Market Maven, for the regions of the Loire and Poitou-Charentes to chase chateaux and thousands of years of history, eat oysters till we pass a pearl, or get sidetracked taking pictures of sheep and other randomness.

Then off to Bretagne (to visit our French Texas friends who are now back in France ) and then a jaunt over to Basse-Normandie (to spend the day with the coolest shepherdess in France who guards the only 18th century structure besides Versailles or the Petit Trianon that I would give my right arm to own).

A few more days in Paris and a visite privilege of the Petit Trianon with a fellow Texas gal and blogger, Madeleine, who writes about her Marie Antoinette obsession here: Important To Madeleine .   We lived in the same town in TX (The Woodlands) and had no idea each other existed until after the Chef and I moved to Maine.  Nutty!

So in between all that, if anyone cares to see some other places they’d like us to explore (in Paris), drop us a line on Facebook or Twitter! Until then…

À bientôt,

TTP

Braving Nemo to find the Knight & Mermaid

Epic blizzard Nemo couldn’t keep us in.

We braved the howling winds, gargantuan snowdrifts, cracking trees and beastly snow plows to find the Mermaid held captive by the Knight of Rockland.

Would you have gone out in such abominable conditions just to find the pair?  A sight such as these two and the historic Blizzard Nemo…why not?  You only live once.

glitter and snow

While the Chef was busy shoveling snow hearts in the drive-way (yes, he likes to amuse me like that–he’s a sweetie pie) I figured why not drag out the glitter and sequins to decorate that blanket of white that fell over night .  I’ve decided that snow is one of the most magical solid creations mother Earth can produce.  Until I see the Aurora Borealis and am utterly mystified, snow ranks #1.

Glitter, even though it’s not a direct gift of mother Earth, is #2.  When I was a teacher, my students knew glitter could do no wrong.  I didn’t care if it was spilled, glued or flung into the air…the more the better!   Oops..you dumped an entire bottle of glitter on your desk–no worries just dust it off…makes the classroom sparkle! (the night sweepers hated me I’m sure).  Needless to say a nice portion of my classroom budget went to the replenishment of our glitter supply.  Now that I’m without a classroom and students to enjoy the glitter follies with, I make do with the occasional canvas of white that mother nature provides–outside. There’s no night sweepers at our house.

Hope you enjoy the sparkle!

Can’t wait to share about our fun day with a certain Belgian named Don.

My favorite folie d’amour has been on my mind lately thanks to a certain shepherdess.

It’s one month until Paris and then it’s Chasing French History time again!

kiss your life

Surprises…who doesn’t love a good surprise now and then?  Surprises are like a kiss from life.  They make you feel good inside…happy to be alive.

kiss your life

The idea for a surprise meet-up with a Coastie friend we hadn’t seen since Galveston circa 2011, in the New Hampshire town of Portsmouth was definitely an event we weren’t going to miss. Being from the Lone Star state where crossing the state line usually involves a good 6-8 hour journey, sometimes 10 hours depending on the direction you’re headed, made the 2 hour venture even more appealing.

Portsmouth New Hampshire

Happily reunited after our “surprise run-in” with our Coastie friend, we all wondered about the downtown, tasted the local culinary fare, threw a few rocks at the local bowl-o-rama, wasted a good $10 on silly arcade games, and closed the day with a cold one at the town’s first real watering hole.  Literally, it WAS Portsmouth’s original water well–1600s– it’s now home to 5 or so Japanese koi fish and sits conveniently inside a vintage tavern that at one time was a brothel–whoa, imagine that.

If you ever find yourself in Portsmouth, wonder into the Dolphin Striker, lower level and sit at the bar that’s built over the old well.  Watch the spring-fed water fill into the koi pond–you’ll kiss your life when you think about what a pain it must have been to live back then…especially for the madame of the brothel upstairs–yikes!!! Thank goodness I was an 18th century French princess 😉

Ever been to Portsmouth, New Hampshire?  If so, do share your experience…
