Even though Texas is home and will always be home, we’re leaving a piece of our hearts in Maine. Maine offered us a fresh start after the jolt we experienced by leaving France. It was the beginning of a new and rewarding Coast Guard career for the Chef and a chance for me to find a new direction in life…both of which we captured and never looked back.
Maine…..a hidden gem of a state.
From Don, the horse at Oyster RIver, to the giant Abbie Burgess Coastie family, to my fellow fabulous photogs, to the traveling Rackliffs who live on the cove, to our big sis downstairs, to the Hollywood friends in Camden and finally to my French guardian sun angel–Winnie. We will miss each and everyone of you that have touched our lives this past year. I’d go into detail with the goodbyes, but the tears will start up again. I have to remember the positive that was pointed out to me this morning by Facebook friend Denise–”the good part of the military life is that we’ll have a new family at our next duty station..and that family grows and gets bigger…you don’t really lose the last one, you just add to it.”
She’s exactly right–our family in Galveston can’t wait to say hello! I guess that makes this move easier and a lot more special than all the others–we’re going home. A home cooked meal by the Chef’s Momma or a hug and kiss by my sweet parents is a just a car ride away instead of twelve hours and two layovers.
See you soon Texas!
